At the awards assembly for Byng seniors, the Byng Excellence in Education Foundation (BEEF) awarded $750 scholarships to five students. l-r: Kelly Cooke, CeCe Sayre, Trenton Shaw, Ana Belle Barnes, and Adeline Daniel. The students can use the money at any college, vo-tech, or trade school of their choice.
Byng senior Shelby Brakhage accepted the Robbins Family Memorial Scholarship for $5000 from Byng Excellence in Education Foundation representative Betty Allred at the Byng end-of-year awards assembly for seniors. Both Mr. and Mrs. Robbins retired from Byng after over a half century of teaching. Their sons--Randy, Cliff, and Riley--involved themselves in academics, school activities, and community service. An anonymous donor established the scholarship to honor the family that greatly influenced his life as a student.
Retired chairperson of the Byng Math Department, Doris Brockett presented the Brockett Scholarship for Excellence in Mathematics for $1000 to Byng senior Brianne Sanders. Zac Simpson, a Byng graduate of the class of 2000, established the scholarship twelve years ago and continues to sponsor it. The scholarship money can be used for academic purposes at the discretion of the student.
“Walk of Fame” Project
The Foundation sells bricks to alumni, students and educators to include on our “Walk of Fame” which is located on the south side of the high school at the flag pole. The bricks are $25 each. The costs to engrave the bricks are paid by the Foundation and all labor and materials to complete the project are donated by members of B.E.E.F. and school personnel.
